Easington Community School had already been involved in work along the East Durham coast having worked on the Norwich Union Coast Watch project, the Marine Conservation Society and with Easington District Council's Tidy Easington campaign. They have just won an environment award for their Beachwatch project and the school were keen to extend this work and develop monitoring projects along the east Durham coast as part of their environmental theme in the Personal and Social Education curriculum.
Aims

The aims of the work with Easington Community School were to :
1) Identify changes that may occur along the east Durham coast as a result of the 'Turning the Tide' restoration programme.
2) To develop projects to monitor these changes.
3) To implement the first phase of monitoring.
Method and Results

Pupils were divided into groups and six monitoring projects were carried out in total.
