i had no idea how much of a ordeal the tragic easington pit disaster was i must say i loved this poem The Miner It’s a Monday morn, As a new day dawns, We climb out of bed, And wind our way to the pit head. The pit baths smell, Of sweat and grime, I must hurry on, It’s time to go down the mine. The big wheel turns, Oh how I yearn, For the soft comfort, Of my bed again. Eight hours to go to, To the end of my shift, 30 tonnes of coal, is what I have to lift. The pit ponies live, from day to day, In this black hole, Working without pay. The dust and dark, I don’t like this lark, I long to retire, Just to sit in the park. My dream is over, It’s back to real life, It’s time to go home now, To the arms of my wife, Until a new day dawns. its brilliant! i have learned quite a bit of things like when it happened (May 29th 1951) how much people died(81 miners and 2 rescuers) and obviously how it happened! It must of been horrible for all the families who must of been devistated and i felt very sorry for them and ofcourse the unfortunate people who died. but ofcourse it was only far for the children who got a disease of the explosion got money to be cared for. and also the memorial built and all the other rememberances for that tragic day! i feel really and deeply sorry and i would tell them but ofcourse it was a while ago, even so some people will still be alive and i think it a good historical fact for easington to remember for years to come. it is a good thing to do by putting all the names, ages and jobs of the people who died. but most of all is actually taking the time and effort to do the website and make it soung as if you were there when it happened all i can say is i hope it never and i don't think it will happen again! bye ®ã©h (rachel facchini) (8h2)
